How close to a box must NM cable be secured?

Within 8 inches of a box

NM cable must be secured within 8 inches of a box to prevent strain on the conductors and terminations. This rule ensures the cable doesn’t pull on the box connections if the cord is tugged or moved. The distance is measured from the outside edge of the box to the securing device (staple, strap, or clamp) designed for NM cable. After that first support, the run must continue to be supported at regular intervals.
